Zana is an international instructor, trainer and coach. Her strength is her knowledge of equine and human biomechanics and behaviour and psychology.
Zana starts all horses and riders using this knowledge and ensures each horse and rider has an individual training programme to suit their physical and mental attributes giving them the best chance to learn and develop as a wonderful partnership. She has worked with many different breeds of horses for many different disciplines and believes that all too often the basics of balance and relaxation are overlooked and also people forget that the horse has to see a benefit to learning with their rider.
Zana has been fortunate to work with many good horsemen in her time and can honestly credit herself with the same title. She has worked with horses in different countries and cultures and is now back home in her native Yorkshire. She has worked in dressage, pony trekking and trail riding, racing, driving and horse drawn field work, pony packing, show jumping, eventing, trec and has helped riders prepare for both local and fun events, and even all the way to competing in their discipline internationally for their country!
Her main focus has been on introducing the leisure rider to the wonderful world of horses and right from the start giving them the basics to become excellent horse people of their own accord. Providing good quality schoolmasters to ride on that have the sensitivity of a professional’s horse but the good natured, honesty and forgiveness of a beginner’s first love. She ran the Yorkshire Dales Trekking Centre for 10 years before moving to the SW of England where she ran Devon Riding Holidays.
Both centres had an excellent reputation both Nationally and Internationally with accreditations and highly earned respect. These centres gave Zana years of proven success that she can train happy, content, well mannered horses that could willingly do their job, generously making up for any inadequacies of their riders. On these well trained horses, riders quickly progressed and Zana’s unique teaching style helped them learn the feel for a horse that other instructors had failed to instil.
She spent 2 years based in Florida and then Kentucky to be able to continue breeding and training lovely horses and their riders whilst assisting her husband, Jim with his TB racehorse training business. She uses the same skills in starting the racehorses in their work and helps progress them to the high speed work for racing.
